Professional Profile

I completed my orthopaedic training in Yorkshire and followed this with a 12-month specialist knee surgery post working at the Adidas UniSports medicine centre in Auckland, New Zealand alongside a group of internationally recognised knee surgeons.

I was appointed to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in knee surgery in May 2001. My work is exclusively limited to pathology and injuries of the knee. I also provide significant number of ‘second opinions’ on patients referred from colleagues in my department and from neighbouring hospitals.

In my NHS practice I treat adult patients of all ages and athletes of all abilities. In private practice I treat a similar patient group but also elite athletes. South Yorkshire is home to the English Institute of Sport (EIS), several professional football clubs and a professional rugby league club. Through these links I have over 20 years’ experience treating athletes from diverse sports including Premiership footballers, rugby players and Olympic disciplines.

I would describe my clinical work and experience as covering all aspects of knee surgery including complex arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, multi-ligament surgery, surgery for the arthritic knee and knee trauma. Sheffield is one of a small number of NHS England commissioned sites for Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation surgery and I am the clinical lead for this service.

Over the course of my career, I have published numerous scientific papers and written 5 book chapters relevant to knee surgery.
