Patient of Mr Tony Wilkinson: This 32 year old female suffered with long second toes. This was both painful in shoes and cosmetically embarrassing. A small section of bone was removed from the middle joint and the toe shortened to the desired length. A small threaded pin was placed across the joint which exits the toe. Then a small buried pin is placed obliquely across the joint to prevent distraction with swelling.
This pin is left in and the visible pin is removed painlessly without anaesthetic after 4 weeks.
It takes 6 weeks to recover from the procedure.
